Rebelskamp is a band from San Jose, CA that started playing live in 2010, when they decided to take "Natasha's Garage Sessions" (a weekly improv jam-night held in a friend's Garage) to the main stages of San Jose, the Bay Area, and beyond. The current band lineup consists of the 3 Huelsenkamp brothers - Jesse aka G.Willikers (vocals/guitar), Jeremiah aka Verse (bass guitar/background vocals/etc), and Justin (synth/samples/effects), along with Juan Maserati (keys), Duhran Wilson (trumpet), Kenny Bundy (sax), and Phil Zigler of Relapse (lead guitar). Stylistically, their music has a genre of its own, but is known to fluctuate from Funk to Psychedelic Rock to Blues, to Soul, and pulls from elements of Hip-Hop, Reggae, and Jazz, managing to seamlessly blend moods, influences, and sounds into one fluid sound.
Rebelskamp prides themselves on their impromptu jam style, the core basis of their spontaneous songwriting, constantly conjuring new culminations at each show, creating a sound to suit any given environment. Their songs typically start off as fully improvised jams, and are created out of thin air, without any discussion. This format allows for the songs to be fully freeform and to take shape all their own. They have been known to play off the energy of the crowd, and have even at live shows done songs where the members of the crowd will choose a topic or song title, and the group will then create a brand new song in real time, on the spot, based on the audience suggestions. All members contribute to the song structure, and there is usually not any one songwriter or band “leader”. The result is unbridled music with a beautiful, timeless sonic landscape, and with a fresh yet vintage, funky yet hard-hitting sound that is 100% original.
Under their own independent label/brand imprint call Grow Your Own Records (GYO), Rebelskamp independently released their debut album "The Kill" in 2013 to local acclaim, which they immediately followed up in 2014 with a second offering entitled "InTentCity". This release got them more widespread attention and landed them a slot on the 2014 Vans Warped Tour. Their first two albums feature guitar by Jeremy Deneau, and bars by San Jose’s own Dirtbag Dan. In early 2017, their third album “Zaeliens” was released, an epic musical collaboration featuring over 10 talented guest musicians from their native San Jose, including poet Mike McGee, Cado Dos Santos, Nehal Abuelata, April Gee, Gen Rocket, Adira Shark, Sean Blak, Droo Zee, Natasha Littlewood, Matt of Philthy Dronez, and Phil Zigler. Rebels have since built their full-scale recording studio, and there, at Grow Your Own Recording Studio, their 4th studio album is currently in the works. In 2022, the Rebelskamp played live with local hip hop artist Dox Black, and the chemistry was electric from the jump. So much so, they decided to continue as the backing band for Dox. Performing as Dox & The Aquanauts, the group has performed many local venues, festivals, and events in San Jose, with great crowd feedback every time.
